3819 km of BAM

Komsomolsk was founded in 1932 as a base for Soviet defense industry. Its name was derived from Komsomol (Young Communist organization), which members built the city. Nowadays Komsomolsk is the important industrial center of Siberia. Its largest plants produced aircrafts and ocean-going vessels.

Komsomolsk is the very attractive city with wide three-lined boulevards. It is located on the left side of the Amur River.


What to see


The Komsomolsk' Regional museum

Open: from 10 till 17:00. Closed on Mondays.

There are displays of the history and culture of Nanai people (indi genous population). You will know the history of the building of Komsomolsk, about famous GULAG (Stalin's camps for political prisoners).


The Museum of Tank.

The open air museum consists of about 30 fighting vehicles. It is located in the park next door to the Regional Museum. As it does not have a fence around it, it can be visited anytime.


How to get

Komsomolsk is the final stop od BAM (Baikal-Amur Trunk), which connected north Baikal with the Amur River. It take 2 days and 17 hours to reach Vladivostok.

There is also an airport in Hurba (6 km form Komsomolsk).
