Krasnoyarsk is the third largest city in Siberia and an important station on the Trans-Siberian railway. It is situated on the both banks of the Yenisei, the powerful Siberian river. It takes about 2 days and 10 hours to get there from Moscow and about 4.5 hours by plane.

Krasnoyarsk is an administrative center of a vast region that stretched for 4000 kilometers from north to south. The region attracts by its nature that includes several zones such as tundra, taiga and artic desert. Its fauna consists of great number spices of birds and mammals. During summer the temperature rise up to +30 degree, but in the winter it drops to -30 degree.

Krasnoyarsk was founded in 1628 as a fort for protection the frontier of Russian Empire from attacks of Tatars who lived along Yenisei. The intensive growth of the city began with the discovery of gold and by the arrival of the railroad in 1895. In 1960 one of the largest hydropower station was built here. A metro system was constructed.

There are a number of Russian Orthodox churches in Krasnoyarsk, the oldest of them is the Svyato-Pokrovskiy Cathedral (1785).



What to see

Nature Reserve "Stolby"

The world-famous reserve is situated 3 kilometers from Krasnoyarsk on the bank of Yenisei River. Stolby are the gigantic beautiful rock cliffs raising from the surrounding hills. During millions of years rain and wind created gigantic figures from wild rocks. The tallest stone pillar reaches 120 meters high.
