Novosibirsk is the third largest city in Russia after Moscow and St-Peterburg. It was founded in 1893 as the future site of the Trans-Siberian railway bridge crossing the great Siberian river Ob. Now it is a large river, rail and air transportation hub and the leading industrial center of Siberia.
Novosibirsk has the biggest railway station along the Trans-Siberian route and the biggest opera and ballet theatre in all of Russia, even biggest than Moscow's Bolshoy. The city has metro.
The city is the home of the famous Novosibirsk University, a large number of institutes and research centers, many of them are located in Academgorodok. This small town is situated 30 km south of Novosibirsk.

The open-air museum is located in Academgorodok. There are only 2 such museums (Novosibirsk and St.Petersburg cities) in the whole country. Visitors have a chance to see train engines and wagons that was used on railways of former USSR and more concrete - on Trans-Siberian railway.
