Tynda was founded in 1975 as one of the base point of BAM (Baikal-Amur Trunk). It was built by members of the Komsomol (Young Communist Organization). At present, many streets of Tynda have names of Moscow streets or was named after Moscow builders: Sokol'niki, Arbat, Moscow builders Street. But the streets come to taiga.

The climate of Tynda is severe: longer and colder winter, short summer. The winter lasts 210 days. The coldest month is January. The minimum temperature is 56 degrees below zero. Usually the snow falls in September and melts only in April. Nowadays, Tynda is the main junction of BAM that connected by railway with most cities in Russia. For example you need 30 hours to get Khabarovsk by train.
